Superior Fibers, LLC is the leading innovator in glass filament media located in Reedsville, West Virginia and has manufactured there since 1978. The company manufactures fiberglass for the filtration, day-lighting and composites markets and exports globally.

Job Title: Procurement Manager
Travel Required: Some Travel. Driver’s License Required
Position Type: Full-Time, Monday- Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nights and/or weekends may be required.

The Procurement Manager manages an expenditure base of $5-10 million per year for materials and/or services to support the company's purchasing programs. The Procurement Manager is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality and at delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning and scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned consistent with ACCPAC software requirements or as appropriately concluded with a requisitioner.

Job Description Role and Responsibilities

  • Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with plant engineering to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities
  • Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
  • Works closely with I-R strategic sourcing to advance enterprise-wide sourcing programs as appropriate
  • Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of a senior buyer and/or the director of purchasing
  • Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from a senior buyer or the director of purchasing for assigned responsibilities
  • Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with MAPICS requirements or as arranged with requisitioners
  • Organizes and implements with direction from a senior buyer and/or the director of purchasing strategies to accomplish small business and disadvantaged business sourcing programs consistent with company guidelines
  • Visits suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business administration, economics or engineering with two years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing related experience or demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-mentioned tasks in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with contract negotiations
  • Product knowledge and familiarity

Preferred education and experience

  • Over 5 years of experience in a Purchasing/Buyer position in manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong experience with contract negotiations.
  • Product knowledge and familiarity.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. If required to enter the production floor, this position will encounter the following:

  • Regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions; cold temperatures in the winter season
  • Floors may be slippery
  • Hot liquids and chemical solutions are present and must be carefully handled
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment) is required on the production floor

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
